Sand and Silk came to be from a love of all things tropical and an opening day visit to the now-defunct Discovery Store in downtown Washington DC. In the section devoted to home accessories, I found a fragrant, beautiful coral and blue soap swirled in the colors of the Caribbean. But that one bar was 12.00 – and the sudden inspiration for a new hobby! Right after I put it back on the shelf, I vowed to learn the art of creative soapmaking. After many online searches, ruined supplies, error, trial, and more error, I finally created my first decent bar of decorative soap. And as is so often said, the rest is history.
My love of all things nautical and tropical is obvious from the products I offer – loofah scrub soaps, beachy flip-flops, seashell soaps that could pass for those gathered from the beach, decorative pineapples, colorful calypso-inspired bars and soaps that appear to be embedded with blue and green seaglass. They are both beautiful and useful. That love extends to photography as well – I also offer a collection of cards and prints from my travels to lands of palms trees, blue water, white sand and coastal towns up and down the east coast.
When you want to remember that perfect day at the beach or your favorite seaside retreat, treat yourself to soaps from Sand and Silk. Take a trip to the tropics – every day!
